However, following a lot of rain, fireants will tend to be close to the surface so you may only need to go 1 foot down. Also, it is much easier to penetrate ground which is moist so try to time Staking and Drenching just after a rain or irrigation. NUMBER OF HOLES NEEDED: The average mound will require 5-10 holes though small nests, the size of a softball or less, will only need 3-5 holes. Nests which are larger then a medicine ball will need 10-15 holes.
